Open Coffees are a gathering for Change Makers across the spectrum and serve as an opportunity to meet with some of Omaha's most impacting and influential people. Each week we invite a special guest to share their personal story in an open Q&A format, allowing attendees to ask key questions that might inspire new ideas and spring them into action! Think of it like getting a coffee meeting with someone really great but as a group!

Apr 17th join us for Open Coffee with Eric Williams. Eric has dedicated his career for the last decade to conserving and protecting natural resources in the Omaha community. He is the Natural Resources Planner at the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District, where his work focuses on planning and construction of trails for active transportation, recreation, and access to natural resources. Outside of the office, he founded the Omaha Biofuels Cooperative to produce biofuels from waste vegetable oil. He has served on the board of directors for several other nonprofits including Nebraskans for Solar, Dundee Community Garden, Earth Day Omaha, Green Omaha Coalition, and Mode Shift Omaha. During college, he began playing ultimate frisbee. When he returned to Omaha after graduating, he helped found Omaha Disc to encourage others to play ultimate, and connect with other players in the community. In 2014, he installed a 3 kW of solar PV system which produces about 90% of the electricity used in his home. He drives an all-electric Nissan Leaf to help continue reducing his consumption of natural resources through clean transportation. To continue helping to improve energy policy in his community, he is now campaigning to be on the Board of Directors for his local public electric utility. He lives with his partner Kristine, and their adopted puppy Katy.

Eric loves talking about local production of clean energy can help reduce carbon emissions, while strengthening our community by reinvesting in our workforce and productive capacity. Businesses, government agencies, and nonprofits all play an important role in that transition. He says, we have all the technology needed, we need to find widespread public support, financial investment, and political will to make that better future a reality. #CleanEnergyLocalPower
