QueerFaith on Campus: «The Integration of Faith and LGBTQ Identities» with Dr. Barrett Scroggs and Nate Faflick
The Urban Abbey celebrates being a space in which no one has to choose between their faith and identities. Join us as we welcome Dr. Barrett Scroggs and Nate Faflick from Kansas State University for an interactive presentation as they discuss their research on the intersection and reconciliation of religious and LGBTQ identities, well-being in LGBTQ folks, and their own personal journeys and experiences.
Barrett Scroggs is a Ph.D. Candidate in Life-Span Human Development. Beginning in the Fall of 2018 he will be an Assistant Professor of Human Development and Family Studies at Pennsylvania State University Mont Alto. He has previously worked as the Director of Children’s Programming at Omaha First United Methodist Church, the Director of Community Engagement at Urban Abbey, and the Director of Children’s Ministries at Manhattan (KS) First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Nate Faflick is currently an undergraduate in Human Development and Family Science at Kansas State University. He works as a grassroots advocate for legislation related to global and domestic poverty issues, and as a healthcare advocate at the local level.
Together, they research the intersections of LGBTQ and religious identities in adolescents and emerging adults. Their research has been presented at the National Council on Family Relations, the Society for the Study of Human Development, and the Society for the Study of Emerging Adulthood.
