Please join us for our August Inside Voices Poetry Reading! We will be hosting two local poets at our Benson shop on Thursday, August 17th.
This month's poets are as follows:
Britny Cordera and Jen Dawson.
Britny Cordera is the author of the collection Wingmakers (Pinyon Publishing, 2015), and is the youngest author to have a full length collection published in the history of the University of Nebraska. In 2016, her work was nominated for a pushcart prize, and her poetry is found or is forthcoming in Peacock Journal, Pantheon Magazine, Pinyon Review, Canopic Jar Suites, and Light: a Journal of Poetry and Photography. Known locally as the Old Market Poet, she is often set up with her Corona 3 folding typewriter in Omaha’s Old Market district, sharing her work with others.
Dawson is a science fiction writer, playwright, poet, and member of SFWA and Codex. She holds a BFA in Playwriting from DePaul University and an MFA in Creative Writing from Stonecoast. Her work has been seen in Mothership Zeta, Silk Road Review, Eclectica, The Omnibus of Dr. Bill Shakes and the Magnificent Ionic Pentatetrameter, Escape Pod, and The MFA Years. She has a forthcoming story in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. Her plays have been performed in Los Angeles and Chicago, and she currently resides in Omaha as a teaching artist. This last November, Dawson had the honor of working as writer in residence at Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, and she was also chosen as a CSArtist by Omaha Creative Institute for 2017. She lives with her husband and puppy and enjoys planning elaborate road trips when they’re not eating pizza at home.
