Join us at Hitchcock Nature Center on Tuesday, September 19th for the final Hitch Hike of the 2017 season. This hike will begin at 6:00 p.m. & is the most challenging hike of the series. Head out to the westernmost section of the park along the famed Westridge Trail to our final destination, a scenic overlook with an astounding view of the Missouri River. All experience levels are welcome but this 2.5 mile hike will include traversing steep terrain.
The public is invited to attend all the hikes in this series. They are designed to introduce visitors to Hitchcock Nature Center as well as the Loess HIlls. The series begins with a moderate level hike and will get progressively more challenging as we build up to a 2.5 mile difficult hike in September. Water bottles, bug spray, & sunblock are all recommended. Please dress for the weather & wear appropriate footware.
Well behaved dogs are welcome to accompany their owners but must be leashed at all times, you must pick up and remove their waste, & you may be asked to remain at the tail end of the group if we have a large number of participants. This is an educational program, disruptive pets may be asked to leave the group.
Pre-registration is not required for this event. There is no fee for this event, free will donations will be accepted to support continued programming opportunities in Pottawattamie County. Participants must have a valid Pottawattamie County Park permit or purchase a $2.00 per vehicle daily entrance pass. Daily passes may be purchased with cash or check at the front entrance. Annual permits may be purchased for $10.00 from staff at any of our parks or at the Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center during regular business hours.
New for 2017! Get your very own Hitch Hike Passport for a chance to win a free cabin rental at the end of the Hitch Hike season. Every participant will receive one stamp on their passport for each Hitch Hike they attend during the 2017 season. Each stamp is one entry into our drawing so the more you hike the more chances you have to win!
Weather permitting, please meet at the Loess Hills Lodge.
