Join Green Bellevue for its August program on composting with guest presenters Ben Samuelson and Betsy Goodman of Soil Dynamics.

Take a look at compost under the microscope and discover the science behind it. Learn how to compost both in your backyard and commercially, and the current status of composting citywide.

Backyard composters at all levels of experience will learn from Ben's microscope demonstration, backyard composting tips (with lots of pictures), a very brief introduction to the soil food web, and an update on current local composting news. Can we persuade you to try backyard composting for the first time? The practice is sensible, safe, and easy, plus it can help restore the hidden habitat of soil to the benefit of lawn and garden.

Don't know the difference between backyard static composting and commercial thermal composting? Betsy will review the basics to backyard composting — what to compost, finding the right ratio of inputs, and remediating common issues. Betsy will also show pictures of Soil Dynamics' commercial compost facility and share her excitement about the feasibility of a zero waste metro area!

Following this program, you are invited to join in an interactive Q&A session. Green Bellevue meetings are free and open to the public, so invite your friends! greenbellevue.org

Meet in the lower level meeting room area in Conference Room A. You can park in the visitor parking lot and enter through the main door. Go down the stairs, make a «u-turn» and Conference A is down the hall on your left.
