Baxter Arena will host the fourth season of Curling Night in America on NBC Sports Network in August. The television event will kick off an unprecedented amount of coverage of the sport on American television for the 2017-18 season and serve as a lead in to the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team Curling Trials in November.
The next series will begin in October and run into December, which will be followed in February by NBC's extensive 2018 Olympic Winter Games coverage. Then in March and April 2018, NBCSN will carry coverage of the World Curling Championships for women's, men's and mixed doubles competition.
Baxter Arena will host 12 teams in August for the competition and production of the next Curling Night in America series. These eight new programs will air as a lead-in to the Olympic Team Trials and U.S. Olympic Mixed Doubles Team Trials.
«Since securing the bid to host the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling, we have witnessed growth in public awareness, excitement, anticipation, and curiosity relating to the sport throughout Omaha. This trend will continue as we host Curling Night in America,» said Wes Hall, President/Executive Director of the Omaha Sports Commission. «Curling Night in America will bring a new focus to Omaha, one with an international flair, and serve as a great preview before the Trials this November.»
In conjunction with the World Curling Federation, U.S. Curling Association, and the United States Olympic Committee, NBC Sports Group will air the series beginning in October. The made-for-TV international curling event, which debuted in 2014, will feature three American teams taking on China, Japan, and Scotland in team and mixed doubles competition.
«With the next Curling Night in America series starting in the fall, fans will be able enjoy an exceptional amount of curling on U.S. television from October right through the Men's World Curling Championships in April 2018,» said Rick Patzke, USA Curling Chief Executive Officer. «We are grateful for the partnerships with NBC, the U.S. Olympic Committee, the World Curling Federation, and USA Curling sponsors that make this possible. Having this international event in Omaha as a precursor to the Olympic Trials is also a significant bonus, and we're thankful for the support of the city and Omaha Sports Commission in making this happen.»
Similar to last year's event (the competition is titled the U.S. Grand Prix of Curling), a points system will be used to determine a champion in each division as well as an overall victor. In addition, prize money will be up for grabs.
USA Curling is sponsored by AtomOS, Nike, Brooms Up Curling Supplies, CryoMAX 8-Hour Cold Pack, Sitrin, The RAM Restaurant & Brewery, BalancePlus, Brakebush, Jet Ice, and Ki Mobility, and is partnered with Laurie Artiss Ltd. – The Pin People, United Airlines, 12th End Sports Network, and CurlingZone.
